Marketing Engineer is the most important role in revenue.
← Back

GTM Insights from The GTM Studio

Greetings...

What a great newsletter for y'all this week. So much happening. Before going there, really happy we launched our new site, thegtmstudio.io. 100% designed and implemented with Claude and published on Webflow. What can be achieved today with AI is nothing short of outstanding. Equally satisfying, anytime we want anything changed, open Claude, tell it what's required and it's done immediately at with zero cost. What isn't there to like!

BOOM!

Let's get into this it's a solid week.

Insights....

🤖 AI Native Companies Are Scaling on a Direct Enterprise Sales Motion

FDE's look to be the future for enterprise brands. An area we're investing in at The GTM Studio. Certainly worth the read. Legora went from $1M to $100M ARR in 18 months. Sierra hit $100M ARR in 21 months with 40% of the Fortune 50. Both used direct enterprise sales with forward deployed engineers, not PLG. The FDE model embeds a senior engineer with the customer to ship integrations into production, closing the gap between demo and live deployment that kills 95% of AI pilots. An FDE costs $250K to $450K all in, less than a fully loaded AE plus solutions engineer. Each custom build feeds the product roadmap through Palantir's "gravel road to paved highway," making every deployment cheaper.

Read more here (GTMnow)

📈 Productivity Is Now the #1 Revenue Growth Strategy

Access the Gong report, link 👇🏼. Much I am sure you'll know, but still a few surprises. Their 2025 data shows a major shift in how revenue leaders are growing. Productivity and output of existing teams jumped from the #4 ranked growth initiative in 2024 to #1 in 2025, leapfrogging upsell, new products, and geo expansion. Meanwhile, 43% of revenue leaders say AI will transform sales jobs without reducing headcount. Australia leads the charge with 61% planning to grow revenue teams versus 56% in the US and 36% in the UK. The message for GTM engineers: the winning bet is building systems that multiply output per rep, not replacing reps.

Read more here (Gong)

📊 State of AI GTM Recruiting: 17 Hot Takes

If you're looking for a new gig.....Anthropic AEs earn roughly $400K in on target earnings plus approximately $1M in stock. The $1.5M per rep annual productivity benchmark is becoming the new floor for AI native sales teams. Chris Balestras breaks down 17 recruiting hot takes across the AI GTM landscape, defending the forward deployed engineer as a distinct and durable role rather than a rebranded solutions engineer. Companies hiring GTM engineers pay 20% to 40% above traditional sales engineering comp because the role demands production code skills, not just demo skills. The talent market is pricing in the shift.

Read more here (The Crew Blog)

🔧 Why the Marketing Engineer Is the Most Important New Role in Revenue

This article is worth a story on it's own. Marketing are playing a really important role in the GTM Engineering ecosystem. ZoomInfo CMO Dennis Sevilla argues that every revenue team needs a Marketing Engineer: a systems designer who treats the GTM stack like a codebase. The distinction from Marketing Ops is sharp. Ops runs the system in place; the Marketing Engineer changes the system, building modular, composable infrastructure for agentic workflows. Three behavioral tells identify one already on your team: they ship automated workflows connecting multiple systems, they speak in webhooks and APIs, and they complain about data not being programmatically accessible. The 30/60/90 day roadmap demands a live automated workflow by Day 60 and measurable funnel lift by Day 90.

Read more here (Entrepreneur)

⚙️ When AI Costs More Than the Engineer

A really hot topic. There are companies spending 6 digits on tokens per month per engineering role. That's cringeworthy crazy! Anthropic spends 2.3x its payroll on compute, roughly $515K per engineer per year. The top 1% of software companies spend $89K per engineer annually. The median spends $137. That 680x gap is the clearest signal yet that most teams are dramatically underinvesting in AI infrastructure. For GTM engineers building agent workflows, token costs are becoming a governed budget line. Goldman Sachs projects a 24x increase in token consumption by 2030 from agentic workflows, which includes GTM agents. Three scenarios project where the rest of the market lands by 2029.

Read more here (Tomasz Tunguz)

If you have friends or colleagues that would enjoy the newsletter, send them over to thegtmstudio.io/newsletter.

That's a wrap for this week folks.
